South Colorado District of Sertoma, Inc.
Membership in the South Colorado District of Sertoma is a great way to perform community service in an environment of friendship and fellowship.
Sertoma took root in the greater Colorado Springs area when Pikes Peak Sertoma Club was founded in 1946. Additional clubs were formed throughout the fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties. In the mid-1980s, over 20 Clubs and over 800 members from businesses, the retired population,k military members, homemakers and other from every conceivable walk of life had found friendships and service through Sertoma. Due to the incredible number of clubs and volunteers, a second district, the Continental Divide District was formed.
The greater Colorado Springs area continues to be a great Sertoma Community with 14 Sertoma Clubs, 7 in the South Colorado District, and three high School Serteen Clubs. There are over 800 volunteers giving of their time and energy to make our community a better place to live. Including a club in Pueblo, the South Colorado District boasts over 400 members.
The District Cabinet
As a division of Sertoma Incorporated, the objective of the South Colorado District Cabinet is to help Sertomans provide service in an environment of fellowship and goodwill that makes life worthwhile and entices others to want to be a part of that service.
The District Cabinet is a team of qualified leaders and experts in Sertoma operations. They are appointed by the District Governor to oversee and assist in the administration and growth of the District.
Individuals who aspire to district leadership positions are encouraged to volunteer their services to the holders of District Cabinet level duties as an opportunity to learn and in turn provide even better future service to the South Colorado District membership.

The governor is responsible for furthering the objectives and interests of Sertoma and supporting the needs of the Clubs within the District as defined in the Governor’s Manual. The Governor will coordinate the efforts of all Sertomans in the District in accordance with the guidelines established by Sertoma, Inc., and outlined in the Sertoma Club Manual and other official guidance provided by the Officers and Directors of Sertoma, Inc.

The Secretary/Treasurer assumes the responsibility for oversight involving district membership tracking, club reports and the District bank account. The Governor and Secretary/Treasurer work together to establish procedures for consolidating and forwarding club reports and financial payments as required to Sertoma, Inc.

The Foundation Representative is the primary spokesperson and supporter of the Sertoma Annual Fund, providing status updates at District meetings and monthly updates from the Foundation Committee to the District Governor for inclusion in the Governor’s Newsletter. The FDR is responsible for taking the message encouraging support of the Sertoma Annual Fund to every club in the district during the first quarter of the Sertoma year. The FDR responds to club questions and requests for Foundation information, coordinates and reviews Community Service Grant applications.

The Lt Gov Recognition is responsible for becoming familiar with all the Sertoma, Inc. recognition programs at the club, district, regional and national levels. The Recognition Chair then coordinates with the individual Club Presidents, Secretaries and Awards Committee Chairs to emphasize the importance of club and individual service recognition. The Recognition Chair coordinates with the Governor and Regional Awards Chair on awards, honors, and recognitions to be presented to members of the South Colorado District at conferences, conventions, or other meetings appropriate for the presentation of awards/incentives.

The Lt Gov Market Development Chair and the Governor jointly maintain a consolidated listing or calendar of events depicting all known Sertoma scheduled activities, critical dates, and other information beneficial to the membership of the South Colorado District. The Lt Gov Market Development also assists Club in obtaining media recognition for their sponsorships and fund raising activities.

The Lt-Gov National Heritage is responsible for coordinating with the Club Presidents and Club Vice Presidents of Sponsorship to ensure participation of local middle schools in Sertoma, Inc.’s Freedom Essay Contest. The Lt Gov National Heritage is responsible for collecting the winning essays from the Club and forming a judging committee to select district level winners.

The Lt Gov Member Services coordinates closely with Club Membership Vice Presidents to assist clubs in the development and execution of growth goals and plans. The Lt Gov Member Services should be keenly aware of membership trends that may indicate membership assistance for retention or club rebuilding.
The Lt Gov for Member Services is responsible for assisting the Governor in working with local Certified Trainers to identify and coordinate training as requested.

The Lt Gov for Speech and Hearing is the District representative on the H.E.A.R.S. (Hearing Education Assistance by Rocky Mountain Sertomans) Committee. The Lt Gov Speech and Hearing has the responsibility of representing the interests of the South Colorado District at all meetings of the HEARS board and being an advocate to the clubs for financial participation in the program.
The Lt Gov for Speech and Hearing is also responsible for identifying Hearing Health Service opportunities that can be shared with the Clubs in the District.

The Serteen Advisor is usually a current or past Serteen Advisor of Club Liaison to a Serteen Club . The Serteen Advisor has the responsibility of insuring that members of the District are made aware of the contributions Serteens are making to service through individual activities or as extensions of sponsoring clubs within the District. The Serteen Advisor also has the responsibility of coordinating with District clubs that currently sponsore Serteen Clubs to assist and encourage Serteen service effectiveness.
The Serteen Advisor is encouraged to develop suggested locations for new Serteen Clubs and bring these opportunities to the attention of the District Governor and individual clubs who may serve as sponsors. The Serteen Advisor will be asked to report on Serteen activities with a district level perspective during district level meetings.

The Sergeant-at-Arms of the South Colorado District has the responsibility of maintaining order and decorum at all official meetings of the District and is responsible to store and safeguard the property assets of the District. The Sgt-at-Arms should be sensitive to the prevailing mood and purpose of all District meetings and take actions that promote fellowship in an effective meeting environment.

The Chaplain of the South Colorado District must be sensitive to the spiritual beliefs and needs of the District membership that spreads across the spectrum of religious, moral, and ethnic persuasions. The Chaplin’s actions should acknowledge and reflect respect for all faiths.
